Swami Vivekananda

                         Swami Vivekananda was born in Calcutta on 12 January 1863 in a kayastha family. Before turning into a monastic Vivekananda was called by the name Narendranath Dutta.His father Vishwanath Datta was an attorney of Calcutta High court and his mother Bhuvaneswari Devi was a deeply religious woman.Narendranath's thinking and personality were influenced by his parents.Narendra had varied interests and a wide range of scholarship in philosophy,religion,history,the social sciences,arts,literature,and other subjects.Narendra started his education at home,after that he joined the Presidency College for higher studies.He learnt philosophy from the Scottish Church College Calcutta.




                              He was the first person to proclaimed the superiority of Hindu culture, civilization and heritage.Swami Vivekananda was a great social reformer and a very inspiring personality.The Rama Krishna mission was founded by Swami Vivekananda. Swami  Vivekananda  remains the most influential  figure in modern  Hinduism. Vivekananda represented Hinduism at the world's parliament of religions at  Chicago in 1893.He was an activating force behind the Vedanta movements in England and the United States of America.His birth anniversary January 12 is celebrated as the National Youth day in India.He compiled a number of books on the four Yoga's,namely  Raja yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti yoga and Jnana yoga.He was also considered a very good singer and poet.
